The Government of the State of Israel on Friday formally presented medical supplies worth over Two Million Naira to the Nigerian government to assist in treating people injured during the Christmas Day bomb blast at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, in Niger State.
The Ambassador of the State of Israel to Nigeria, Mr. Moshe Ram, made the presentation of the items on behalf of the Israeli government to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for onward distribution to various hospitals where the bomb blast victims are currently receiving treatment.
In his remarks, Ambassador Ram reiterated Israel’s strong condemnation of the Christmas Day terror attack and said that Israel was inclined to sympathize with Nigeria because it has been fighting terrorism for many years and fully understands the sorrow and pain caused by such barbaric acts.
News Agency of NigeriaNEMA Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Edward Maigida received the medical supplies which included dressings, consumables, infusions, medicines, pads and wipes on behalf of the Nigerian government. He commended the State of Israel for the gesture and assured that the medical supplies will be shared transparently to the hospitals for the victims.
Assistant Vicar-General of Minna Diocese Very Rev Father Sylvester Gopep was full of gratitude for Israeli government’s quick response in time of their need.
Present at the presentation ceremony which was held at the Embassy of Israel in Asokoro, Abuja, were officials of the Federal Ministry of Health and NEMA; representatives of the Catholic Diocese of Minna and Medical Directors in charge of the hospitals where the victims are currently receiving treatment.
Israel, which was among the first nations to strongly condemn the Christmas Day terror attack in Nigeria, had promised to provide the Nigeria authorities with medical supplies to treat the injured.
With over 60 years of expertise in emergency response and humanitarian aid, Israel is always among the first on the scene at international disaster sites, and most recently in Haiti, Macedonia, Romania, Indonesia, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
