May 18th is celebrated all over the world as The International Museum Day. It was created to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples. Countries across the world organize event such as excursions, seminars and live performances to showcase the richness that lies in our various countries. If you are in Israel, it may interest you to know that there are LOTS of museums all over the country. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the fact that Israel is one country that holds so much history. If you're in Jerusalem, you may want to see the "Yad Vashem", which is the official memorial of the victims of the Holocaust. There is also the magnificent "Shrine of the Book", which houses the Isaiah scroll, dating from the second century BCE.
If you're in Nigeria, there is the National Museum in Lagos which houses numerous artifacts from across Nigeria, like the Nok art which dates back as far as 1000 BC- 300 AD and the car in which the former military Head of State of Nigeria, General Murtala Muhammed was assassinated in.  Take some time off today, visit a museum near you and learn something new.
