Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Moshe Ram has submitted.
However, in order to achieve this, the Ambassador has advised Nigerian authorities to join forces with experts from other parts of the world, stressing that the State of Israel has been active and is always willing to share its experience with Nigeria in all fields of knowledge.
The Ambassador who spoke through his Deputy, Mr. George Deek, made these remarks at the end of a two-week workshop jointly organized by the Embassy of Israel and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), in Abuja, at the weekend, under the auspices of the Israeli Agency for International and Development Cooperation (MASHAV).
He commended the management of NIMET headed by the Director General, Dr. Anthony Anuforom for this initiative and assured that the Embassy through MASHAV would continue to widen its existing collaboration with the organization.
A total of 33 participants drawn from NIMET, Federal Ministries and other government agencies, benefited from the workshop titled; Promoting Climate Information Services for Sustainable Socio-economic Development in Nigeria. It was facilitated by two Israeli experts, Prof Jacob Lomas and Prof Moshe Mandel.
According to the experts, they spent months preparing lecture notes from different sources for the workshop, which was intended to be more practical than theoretical.
Key topics covered during the workshop include, Rainfall and optimum sowing time, nitrogenous fertilizer applications, database availability, possible impact of climatic change on agriculture as well as crop weather calendar observations and calculation.
Satisfied with the skills acquired during the training, the participants have called for more regular of such workshops at least once a year for “effective interaction of the stakeholders in the industry for sustainable socio-economic development.”
