ELNET- Poland and the Embassy of Israel in
Poland invites Israel’s Ambassadors around
the world to join the commemoration
campaign led by the POLIN Museum in
Warsaw. We invite you to wear the yellow
daffodil, a symbol of “Remembering Together,”
as we commemorate the Warsaw Ghetto
Uprising on 19 April, 2021. This is your chance
to help share this important message across
the globe.
ELNET is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening relations between Europe and
Israel based on shared democratic values and strategic interests.
This project is addressed to Israeli and Polish Ambassadors in the EU countries and around
the world, who by participating in the campaign will increase the reach and promote the memory
of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. With a unique campaign joined by both Israeli and Polish
Ambassadors we can also send a strong message of unity and bilateral cooperation in the field of
Holocaust remembrance.
With a broad network across Europe and the U.S., ELNET will help to spread the message of this
unique cooperation between Jerusalem and Warsaw globally.
The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was the largest and most heroic act of armed resistance taken up
by the Jews during World War II. It was also the first civic uprising in occupied Europe. On April
19th, the anniversary of the outbreak of the Uprising, we commemorate the heroes of the
Warsaw Ghetto.
This year, on the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, we will honor the role of
women in this heroic struggle.
Why a daffodil?
Marek Edelman, the last surviving leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, used to receive a bouquet of yellow
daffodils from an anonymous person every year on April 19. He would lay them at the Monument to the Ghetto
Heroes in memory of those who fought and died. The paper daffodils, which people wear on this day, are inspired
by this custom. Edelman, who remained in Poland after the war, passed away in 2009.
How to participate:
