    Professor Yael Latzer was born in Jerusalem, Israel. She graduated from Haifa University with both her BA and MA Degree in Clinical Social Work. Her doctorate of medical science degree (DSc) was obtained at the Technion Medical   School, in Haifa, Israel. She received additional certification in   psychotherapy, family and couples therapy. She held a two   year fellowship position, training in the treatment of eating   disorders, at The Psychoanalytic Institute, Menninger Foundation, in Topeka, Kansas, USA, (1989-1991).

    She is the founder and director of the Eating Disorders Clinic, in the Psychiatric Division in Rambam Medical Center, Haifa since 1992. The clinics treatment model is based on a multidisciplinary framework for treating eating disorders, and focuses mainly on family therapy. Based on this model, she developed a two-year continuing education program at the Eating Disorders Clinic for experienced clinicians from all disciplines. The Eating Disorders Clinic in Rambam is the largest center in all of Israel, serving as a model for other EDs clinics. 

    Prof Yael Latzer is among the founders of the Israeli Association for Eating Disorders and nominated as its president for five  years. She has also been a member of the organizing and scientific committees for the ten Israeli Eating Disorders conferences that have been held to date. In addition she is active in the American Academy of Eating Disorders and participates in its international task force and sisterhood. She was accepted to the prestigious Eating Disorders Research Society (EDRS), which has a limited membership worldwide. 

    Academically, she is an associate professor at the Faculty of social welfare and health Sciences at Haifa University. Professor Latzer was the head of a Family Therapy MA Program for three years, trauma program and  Clinical program until today.  She is involved in several international multi-centered researches dealing with various aspects of  Eating Disorders. 

    Prof. Latzer developed an MA Nutrition program, with an emphasis on behavioral and psychological related factors. The program was opened five years ago and is a great successes. Prof. Latzer is the head of the program.

    Four years ago she  developed and established an innovative project, the rehabilitation house for young women with Eating Disorders who have entered their recovery phase of treatment. (“Zeida Laderech”).  

    In addition, over the last 10 years she have been active as an advisor to the Israeli Parliament (“Knesset”) taking part in many meetings, and have contributed dramatically to the change in treatment policy regarding eating disorders. From 2010- 2012 she served as advisor to the former Knesset Member Dr. Rachel Adatto, Chair of the Health Lobby at the Knesset, who was working to pass a new Bill through the Israeli parliament. 

    During the years 2006-2008 she was in a sabbatical in NY USA, teaching at Yeshiva University, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and at the Nutrition and Behavior faculty of Columbia University. In the forthcoming academic year 2013-2014 she  plan to be on a sabbatical year in NYC  again , and will join a research project in the psychiatric department at Columbia university. 
    Prof. Yael Latzer is known both locally and throughout the world, as an expert in the field of eating disorder treatment and research.
