Dr. Michael Widlanski's professional experience straddles the word's of academia, media and government on three different continents. As a journalist, he has filedg stories from all over the world, working in four different media—newspapers, radio, television, and internet.
Dr. Widlanski is a former reporter, bureau chief, diplomatic correspondent, Arab affairs correspondent, and mid-east editor, respectively, at The New York Times, The Cox Newspapers-Atlanta Constitution, The Boston Globe, IDF Radio, IBA Television, and The Jerusalem Post. Dr. Widlanski has also been a senior analyst and commentator for The Media Line internet site.
Dr. Widlanski also served as a special advisor to Israeli delegations to peace talks in 1991-1992 and as Strategic Affairs Advisor to the Ministry of Public Security in 2001-2002. He edited and analyzed secret PLO Archives captured in Jerusalem in 2001-2002. He was a research fellow at the Shalem Center in 2008-9, and Schusterman Visiting Professor in Washington University in St. Louis, where he also taught members of the intelligence and law enforcement communities. He is visiting professor at the University of California Irvine for 2013-14.
For nearly two decades, Dr. Widlanski has taught political communication and comparative politics at the Hebrew University and Bar Ilan, writing about the use of communications during wartime.
His first major book is Battle for Our Minds: Western Elites and the Terror Threat (Threshold/Simon&Schuster, 2012)
