    The Israeli Society through the Eyes of a Documentary Film; Creating a Movie from a Subjective Point of View

    Director, producer and mentor to up-and-coming filmmakers, David Fisher is one of Israel’s leading documentary filmmakers. His last film “Six Million and One” (2011) won him several awards, including best film at DOK.fest Munich, best Director at Silver Horn in Krakow, and special mention at Doxa in Vancouver. Additionally the film was officially selected to IDFA Amsterdam IFF, and opened USA screenings at the Lincoln Plaza Cinema in New York City. This film completes a family trilogy that started with the critically acclaimed film “Love Inventory” that won both the Best Documentary Award at the Jerusalem IFF and at the 2000 Israeli Film Academy Awards. In "Mostar Roundtrip", another of Fisher’s films, he followed his son on an adventure of studying in a conflict-ridden Bosnian city. 

     
    Fisher has served on the juries of international festivals such as HotDocs Toronto, Karlovy Vary (President of doc. jury), EFA (the European Film Academy) and ITVS int'l panel in San Francisco. As Director General of the New Israeli Foundation for Cinema and TV (1999-2008), he initiated and founded the “Greenhouse” programme, which aimed to develop documentary films by Mediterranean filmmakers, and help bring Israeli documentaries to international recognition. He is also an NEH grantee for his film about the Yiddish culture.
