​On August 2nd, 2014, a Hamas military wing facility that was used for research and development of weapon manufacturing against Israeli civilians,  located within the Islamic University, was struck in an air strike. The intelligence indicated that the University and its facilities were being used as a meeting and activity area for Hamas terrorists who were in charge of launching rockets against Israeli civilians. The intelligence on Hamas movements showed that the University was being used by Hamas for the building, testing, and at times, even launching of rockets from certain locations within the University grounds. Those weapons were being built and used to attack Israeli civilian population.​
