Foreign Ministry Director General Gold visits the Republic of Guinea

    The visit of the Director General to Guinea Conakry, at the head of a foreign ministry delegation, is the first manifestation of Israel’s strengthening ties with the republic.

    Dr. Dore Gold, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met today (Sunday, 21 August) in Guinea Conakry with the President of the Republic, Prof. Alpha Conde and ten of his ministers, among them the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Guineans Based Abroad, as well as the Ministers of Defense; Economy and Finance; Energy and Water; Agriculture; Hospitality, Tourism and Handicrafts; and Communications.

    The visit of the Director General to Guinea Conakry, at the head of a foreign ministry delegation, is the first manifestation of Israel’s strengthening ties with the republic, with whom diplomatic relations had been severed in 1967 and renewed in June 2016.
     
    The visit took place in continuation to the visit of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to West Africa and in accordance to the prime minister’s policy of strengthening ties with the continent. In this context, the following subjects were discussed: the struggle against terrorism and international cooperation in agriculture, health, the war on Ebola (which Israel has assisted), energy and water as well as mutual support in international fora and Guinea Conakry’s assistance in expanding Israeli activity in - and cooperation with - additional countries in West Africa.
     
    Director General Dore Gold and Foreign Minister Makale Camara agreed to complete the process of appointing ambassadors.
