A diplomatic dialogue took place June 5 in Jerusalem between Israeli and US delegations. Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon met with the US delegation headed by U.S. State Department Coordinator for Counterterrorism Ambassador Daniel Benjamin.
The dialogue covered regional problems and threats. Cooperation was agreed upon regarding bilateral and multilateral issues.
The Israeli delegation presented on terrorist threats, core challenges it faces, Iran’s involvement in terrorism, Hizballah, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The U.S. delegation presented the American strategy in addressing terror with an emphasis on global terrorism and the continuing threat of Al Qaeda and its affiliates. The U.S. delegation emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing terror and assisting in building capacity for countering terror in developing countries. The U.S. delegation met with Head of NSA, Yaakov Amidror, Minister for Intelligence Dan Meridor, and DFM Daniel Ayalon. MFA Deputy Director General for Strategic Affairs, Jeremy Issacharoff, led the Israeli delegation.
