Director General Rotem's opening remarks:
"it is my honor and pleasure to open this dialogue, between Israel and Poland.
I welcome the Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland, Mr. Bartosz Chichoki and his team, to Israel and to this dialogue.
Israel and Poland enjoy strong political bilateral ties, based on common values.
It is no secret that the issue of the Polish legislation with regard to the Holocaust is a matter of concern to Israel and to the Jewish people world-wide.
We must make sure that historical truths are preserved, that there be no restrictions on the freedom of research and speech, and that the wide threat of criminalization in this regard is addressed and resolved.
We will also raise our concerns in relation to an observed increase in anti-Semitic manifestations over the recent period. We acknowledge and recognize the fact that the leadership of Poland has come out against these ugly appearances, but we will discuss this issue further.
Preserving the memory of the Holocaust is a matter beyond the bilateral relationship between Israel and Poland. It is a core issue cutting to the essence of the Jewish people.
I look forward to an open, candid and friendly dialogue between Israel and Poland, as expected between friends and allies.
Again, I welcome the Polish team to Israel.
Thank You."
