The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre was ready to go on an international tour, first time in nearly 20 years. The Karmiel Dance Festival is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Karmiel and Pittsburgh are Sister Communities. Zipora Gur, Executive Director of Classrooms Without Borders, proposed the idea of the PBT performing in Israel at the dance festivalThe result: The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will perform "Step Touch",  choreographed by Dwight Rhoden, and set to a dozen songs of the doo-wop era at the Karmiel Dance Festival on August 8th.
"They [the directors of the festival] specifically wanted something that reflects our contemporary works," PBT executive director Harris Ferris said. 'Step Touch' uses the classical language of ballet to veer off in contemporary ways. And doo-wop is very American."
The Karmiel Festival attracts more than 5,000 dancers, and over 300,000 visitors, each year from Israel and throughout the world. As part of the festival PBT will present several other performances of "Step Touch":
