    ​The Director of Economic Affairs has the responsibility of managing a range of activities, including promoting new collaborative economic partnerships, and expanding existing ones between Israel and the U.S. on the basis of mutual benefit, equality and reciprocity.​​​

    John Churchill is the Director of Economic Affairs for the Consulate General of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic Region.  His primary goal is to increase investment and trade with companies in the State of Israel by finding new partners in the Mid-Atlantic States.

    John is a graduate of Georgetown University, and spent several of his undergraduate years working on the staff of President DeGioia where he was later promoted to help manage the University's relationships with organizations such as the Board of Directors, NCAA and the Clinton Health Initiative.  He is also a graduate of the Elections and Campaign Management Master’s program at Fordham University.

    His experience includes two years working at Malvern Consulting Group, a life sciences consulting company; his focus was regulatory affairs, grant writing, government contracting, VC & PE due diligence and client relations, one year with AIPAC’s New York fundraising office - specializing in raising major gifts from Wall Street and Real Estate professionals; and most recently, two years with the middle market venture capital firm Selway Capital.  In 2013, Selway formed a U.S. & Israel fund with backing from the family office, Columbus Nova.  John’s primary responsibility with the fund was to perform lead due diligence on life-sciences and medical device deals.  Some of the deals he worked on that are now Selway portfolio companies include: GenePeeks, AxialMed and ApiFix.

    In his spare time, John enjoys fundraising for regional PAC’s and for children’s charities, such as the Boys and Girls Club. 

    The primary goals of the office of Economic Affairs are:

    • To develop and enhance government-to-government and government-to-business diplomatic interactions
    • To work with partner organizations (for example the Philadelphia Israel Chamber of Commerce, the Jewish Federations in our region, Select Greater Philadelphia & the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the BIRD Foundation etc.) to develop business to business interactions
    • To understand the business needs of companies in the Mid-Atlantic region in order to target potential partnerships with business interests in Israel
    • To work with regional and national U.S. investment firms and entities and to help them find Israeli deals that fit their investment interests 
    • To improve existing collaborations or create new avenues for business/trade missions from the Mid-Atlantic to Israel and for reverse business/trade missions from Israel to the region to take place
    • To facilitate commercial research collaborations between universities and institutions in Israel and complimentary universities and institutions in the Mid-Atlantic region
