Israeli diplomats cast their ballots

    As in every election, the emissaries of the State of Israel are the first to cast their ballots, beginning with our embassy in New Zealand, as Israel's diplomats and officials exercise their democratic right to vote throughout the world.

    On Thursday, March 5, 2015, voting for the 20th Knesset elections was held at 96 voting stations in Israeli missions across the globe. Some 5,000 Israeli civil servants stationed abroad cast their ballots over a period of 32 hours, from 9:00 AM in Wellington until 8:00 PM in San Francisco. The first to vote was Yosef Livne, Israel's Ambassador to New Zealand.

    At each Israeli mission there is a local election committee headed by the Israeli consul. The votes are sent to Israel via the Foreign Ministry's diplomatic mail to the Knesset safes within 12 days, to be opened at the end of election day in Israel - March 17.

    Foreign Ministry Deputy Director General for Organization and Administration, Arieh Danon, hosted the members of the Central Election Committee, headed by Justice Salim Joubran, at the ministry's Situation Room. Arieh Danon: "As in every election, the emissaries of the State of Israel are the first to cast their ballots, beginning with our embassy in New Zealand, as Israel's diplomats and officials exercise their democratic right to vote throughout the world."
