Nivi Alroy and sixteen other international artists will rise to the challenge of creating site-specific installations at Globe Dye Works, a sprawling former textile dyeing facility in the Frankford neighborhood of north Philadelphia. The artists’ work is responding to and reflecting  on the building’s manufacturing history and current state of transition by installing multi-media works in dormant industrial spaces. Organized by Philadelphia Sculptors, Catagenesis , will be on view from September 9 - October 21, 2012  An opening reception will take place on Sunday, September 9 from 2:00 –5:00 pm at the Globe Dye Works, 4500 Worth Street in Philadelphia.

Nivi Alroy, an Israeli artist making waves in the international community, will respond to the objects left behind by Globe workers. Taking advantage of the high roof and exposed beams of the old boiler room, she will populate the space with flying ladders, reconfigured wooden chairs, and other mutant and hybrid creations growing from Globe’s discarded relics of its past.

The Globe Dye Works complex of buildings continues to undergo renovations by its current owners and supports small businesses and arts-related activities. “Catagenesis” will serve as an artistic intervention that will continue the process of returning the buildings to life and contributing towards the neighborhood revitalization.
