Following the decision of West Dunbartonshire Council to ban Israeli books from their library shelves, the Israeli Embassy sent to the Council a package of books including one of the first publications in Hebrew to emanate from the region, the Bible, and ranging to the modern day and Start Up Nation (by Senor & Singer).
Amir Ofek, Spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy commented, “Only through reading books can the explicit ignorance about the region, inherent in statements such as Jim Bollan’s, be overcome. Regardless of one’s political take on the Middle East, banning books cannot be a policy adopted by any elected body in the 21st century.”
