The Prime Minster of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, and HE Daniel Taub, Ambassador of Israel to the Court of St. James’s, attended the funeral of Baroness Margaret Thatcher at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London this morning. The Prime Minister was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Sara Netanyahu, and the Chairman of the Jewish Agency, Mr. Natan Sharansky.

Following the funeral, Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “We’ve just come from a very moving ceremony in honour of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. It was deeply meaningful. I think she was a great leader, not only an economic leader, but a world leader helping along with President Ronald Reagan to end the Cold War bloodlessly. That changed history. She evidently changed the history of Britain, the history of Britain’s economy, but in doing so and in doing everything else that she did as she led this country, she inspired many around the world with conviction, determination and courage.”
HE Ambassador Taub said: “I was honoured to join Prime Minister Netanyahu today and to pay tribute to Baroness Thatcher, her many years of service, and her strong support for Israel and the Jewish people. The presence of Natan Sharansky, former prisoner of conscience and Israeli cabinet minister, was a moving reminder of Baroness Thatcher’s passionate defence of the rights of Jews in the Soviet Union.”
