A ceremony and Presentation to Honor the Righteous Amongst the Nations is taking place on Wednesday 23rd October at the House of Lords. This official title is awarded on behalf of the State of Israel, Yad Vashem and the Jewish people to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.
Among those receiving the award are the descendants and relatives of a Lithuanian citizen, a Polish citizen and five British prisoners of war who saved the life of one 16-year-old girl Sarah Matuson (later Hannah Sarah Rigler). Sarah was among the inmates of Stutthof concentration camp who in January 1945 were taken on a death march headed towards the Baltic coast. They smuggled Sarah into their prisoner of war camp – Stalag 20B in Gross-Golmkau, where they hid her in a hayloft. In view of her fragile state they nursed her back to health.

Amongst the Honourable guests that participated in the Ceremony are the Ambassadors of Poland, Lithuania, MPs, Lords and Families receiving the awards.

Attached is a quote from HE Ambassador Taub said: "I am deeply honoured to be able to pay tribute to these remarkable individuals who, each in their own way, proved that the darkest moments of the Holocaust could not fully extinguish the light of courage and compassion. By risking their lives to stand up against Nazi murder and brutality, they saved the lives of others, and provided us with an inspiring model of humanity for all time."
