On Monday 1st July, Mr Javid visited the Old City of Jerusalem - one of the most sacred and holy sites in the world for Jews, Christians and Muslims. This visit follows 19 years in which no senior minister of the British government has visited the Western Wall.

RH Sajid Javid also visited Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount, becoming the first British Cabinet Minister to say a prayer at the Al Aqsa Mosque. He also attended the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where he had the opportunity to meet with Christian leaders from all denominations.

During his trip across the State of Israel, the RH Home Secretary also visited the Holocaust Memorial Centre of Yad-Vashem, where he listened to stories of bravery in the most terrifying situations. He tweeted: "Deeply moving & emotional visit to Yad Vashem paying respect to victims of the Holocaust. We must ensure such abhorrent crimes never happen again & consign antisemitism to the history books."

While the UK Home Secretary visited many historical and religious sites, he also enquired about Israeli innovation during his time with the Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP), an international venture capital firm which specializes in investments in startups.
