Remembrance of Soldiers of the Jewish Brigade

On 8th November, hundreds of people from across the UK paid their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives for democracy in service of the British army, at the Field of Remembrance 2018. Prince Harry, Israeli Ambassador Mark Regev, war veterans, members of the armed forces and Holocaust survivors are some of those who attended the ceremony in honour of the fallen.

Among those who gave their lives for democracy was the Jewish Brigade who fought valiantly against the Nazis as part of the British Armed forces.
The Jewish Brigade was a military formation of the British army comprised of Jews living in Mandatory Palestine, before the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The Brigade shared and fought for the same values as the British people; they fought for freedom, liberty and equality for all and they knew the potential sacrificing of their lives was the only way to preserve those values.

At Westminster Abbey, a plot to commemorate the soldiers of the Jewish Brigade, and their bravery stood side by side the many other fallen heroes.  The recognition of the Jewish Brigade is contributing to making a British and Israeli alliance an even stronger one. Today we continue to fight side by side against dictatorships and regimes to uphold and sustain those values.
