The Embassy staff had the pleasure of welcoming Noam Gershony, Israel’s golden Paralympic hero.

In a moving and fascinating speech, Noam shared his life experiences and described how he managed to find the motivation and inspiration to surpass the challenges and difficulties he has to cope with.

Six years ago, Gershony topped the national news when he was critically injured during the second Lebanon War.En route to the combat zone, Gershony was involved in an Apache helicopter crash that cost the life of his co-pilot. With open wounds, loss of blood and multiple fractures in every area of his body, Gershony’s prognosis was not optimistic.
Yet he proved that after years of therapy, operations and rehabilitation it was not only possible to reach the Paralympics but to win gold.

During his visit to the Embassy, Noam declared: “The Paralympics was truly an amazing experience and I know a lot of it was because of you. I know you worked really hard for the Israeli team to have the most wonderful experience and you really did a good job. Thank you for your hard work.”

The Embassy of Israel is grateful to all Israeli athletes who provided us with magical moments throughout the summer and who inspired future generations with their exceptional determination.
