Over the last few years, the British public has remained divided and confused on which is truth or fiction in regards to Israel. Yesterday, Ambassador Mark Regev joined LBC's Iain Dale to settle any rumours and put to rest any questions the nation may have.
The first caller on LBC questioned the Ambassador about embassies moving to Jerusalem. "Every country has the right to nominate its capital city, and Israel is obviously, no exception. So the United States has moved its embassy to Jerusalem as well as Brazil. Shouldn't the United Kingdom be moving its embassy to Jerusalem?"
The Ambassador responded by saying, "The truth is there's an international norm that every country gets to choose its own capital, and that norm has applied to all countries except for Israel. Do you know there are even countries who have changed their capital city like the Germans, the Chinese or the Brazilians, and when they changed their capital city the international community respects their right to change their capital city. Only in the case of Israel have we have been denied the right that is given to every other sovereign state."
As the interview proceeded, Ian Dale put forward a question relating to Zionism. "Why do you think the word Zionist or Zionism has become almost a pejorative word in this country?"
"It's very sad, people should be proud to say they are Zionist. Zionism is simply the right of the Jewish people to national self-determination. To be anti-zionist is to say you are against the right of the Jewish people to have independence and sovereignty of their own," Ambassador Mark Regev retorted.
