Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi met this morning (Thursday, 13 August 2020), with his counterpart Greek Foreign Minster Nikos Dendias at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.

The two discussed bilateral issues, including the warm relationship between the two countries, the importance of opening of Greek tourism during this time of corona, the importance of the bilateral, trilateral (with Cyprus) and regional relationships, as well as issues of concerns to the countries.

The two ministers also discussed regional developments, the challenges to stability and the prosperity of the Mediterranean region.

In light of the importance of opening the skies and the resumption of tourism between the countries, it was agreed that the foreign ministries of both countries would formulate an accepted outline that will enable the entrance of Israeli tourists and business people to Greece during the corona era.

The ministers noted the great importance for both Israel and Greece in the further development of bilateral relations between the countries in the fields of innovation, commerce, tourism and energy, including the Eastern Mediterranean (EastMed) natural gas pipeline project and the Israel-Greece-Cyprus-electricity cable project.

FM Ashkenazi and FM Dendias also discussed the continuation of cooperation and the deepening of strategic and political ties between the countries in regional and global contexts.

FM Dendias invited his Israeli counterpart to pay a reciprocal visit to Greece. FM Ashkenazi accepted the invitation, and the visit will take place in the near future at a time to be coordinated between the Foreign Ministries.
