Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman met today in Geneva with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay.
FM Liberman advised High Commissioner Pillay that Israel is once again cooperating with the UN Human Rights Council with the intent of opening a new page in the relationship, one that is more objective and fair towards Israel, and with the hope that Israel will no longer serve as the punching bag in a game of hypocrisy.
FM Liberman said at the meeting that Council's constant condemnation of Israel in general, but especially on the backdrop of the mass murders in Syria, the daily bombings in Iraq, the executions in Iran and the turmoil in Libya, severely damages the credibility and legitimacy of international institutions.
Earlier today, FM Liberman met with the Board of Directors of Keren Hayesod Geneva.
Asked about Israeli-US relations, FM Liberman said that Israel and the U.S. have a special relationship, and that the U.S. has been Israel's strongest ally over the years, a fact that has been proved many times. Therefore, it is wrong and pointless for both sides to hold a loud and public debate, and there is no place for personal attacks even if, at times, there are disagreements.
