On Tuesday 29th November – Wednesday 30th November, HE Daniel Taub returned to his own student days, launching an Ambassadorial tour of UK campuses at Oxford University.
The keynote element of the visit was his address to the Oxford Union on Monday night, where he delivered a personal address to 150 students, describing his journey from debating at Oxford to his career as a negotiator and legal advisor for the Israeli Government. The Ambassador at one stage even produced his old Oxford Union card, still held in its light blue leather pouch, a sign of the pride he has always taken in his Oxford past. Over the course of 90 minutes, HE Taub was questioned on issues as diverse as Israel’s social protests to the role of the UN in Middle East peace.
The Ambassador made an affectionate return to address the Jewish Community in Oxford in addition to teaching classes in Law & Armed Conflict at the International Law Department and in Bible Study at the Centre for Hebrew Studies. HE Taub also met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University to discuss future cooperation between Oxford and Israeli universities, as well as other eminent academics.
Quote from HE Daniel Taub:
“I knew that there are unfortunately situations on campus where it is hard to engage in free and open discussion about Israel. I was very pleased that here in Oxford, I was met with a genuine openness and willingness to engage and look forward to continuing these discussions with students throughout the UK.”
