If you are newly arriving to Ethiopia please be aware of the following regarding cellphone usage in the country.
· If you are caring a cellphone while entering Ethiopia, it must be registered by Ethiopian Authorities
· To register your cellphone upon arrival at the airport, please go to the Ethiopian Customs Authority Office at the airport (Room 4 around the luggage area).
· The registration is a short process which only requires the registration of IMEI number of your cellphone
· If you missed to do the above at airport upon arrival, it is possible to conduct the same process in any Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation branch in Addis Ababa.
Please note that
· you might be charged a fee approved by the authorities
· you might be asked to open your cellphone or remove the battery depending on the kind of cellphone you are caring
