On Wednesday 10 October 2018, the Embassy in partnership with the new Trade Mission and the Ghana Israel Business Chamber (GIBC) held a dinner reception to mark the laying of the corner stone for the new Embassy and also celebrate the opening of the new Trade and Economic mission in Ghana.
In her speech, H. E. Shani Cooper announced that “we are currently a growing Embassy in many different aspects. This significant growth comes as a direct result of the pivoting Israeli Foreign Policy towards our neighbors and friends in the African continent.”
Ambassador Cooper also used the occasion to emphasize on some recent engagements between Israel and Ghana that has led to the increasing cooperation between the two states. These included strengthening military ties; the opening of an Economic Mission which is the first of its kind in West Africa, and third in in the whole of Africa; and the visit of a parliamentarian delegation, led by H.E. Dr. Neguise, together with H.E Prof. Yonah and H.E Mr. Elalouf.
Speaking on behalf of the new Trade and Economic Mission, the New Economic Attaché Ms. Ayelet Levin-Karp also emphasized that, the establishment of the new Trade and Economic mission is a product of Israel’s renewed policy to develop and strengthen her economic relationship with countries in Africa.
She added that “the new Trade and Economic Mission will work diligently to broaden the scope of Israeli companies and technologies available to the Ghanaian community,
it is important for me to emphasize – that first and foremost we are here for you – Israeli companies already active in Ghana.”
Speaking on behalf of the GIBC, Mr. Gideon Ameyedor, Vice President of the GIBC expressed his excitement for the establishment of the trade mission in Ghana and assured of the Chamber’s support in working together to bring Israeli and Ghanaian businesses together.
The event was held in the presence of the delegation of the Israeli Knesset members, the Members of the GIBC and members of the Ghana Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association. Ambassador Shani Cooper was joined by MK Avraham Neguise to break grounds for the building of the new Embassy in Accra.
