Accra, Ghana, Thursday, March
10, 2016: The International School of
the University of Haifa in Israel is accepting applications for scholarship for
a one year Master’s Program in Child Development. The program created mainly for
developing countries, is at the Faculty of Social Sciences Center of Haifa
University, which is considered to have one of the best Social Science
departments among universities in Israel.
The program is meant for
students from different disciplines related to working with children; Early
Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Law, Speech Pathology,
Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy with experience in working with
children and families.
The International Master’s Program in Child Development was
established with the goal of improving the lives of children at risk in
developing countries by training and promoting professional leadership that
will advance various agendas to achieve this objective. Thus, the program
trains and prepares professionals to become leaders in enhancing the well-being
and welfare of children and their families. The program was primarily created
by the center as part of an Israeli action to support the UN Millennium Development
Goals, as well as UNICEF's declaration regarding the support of all children in
need, regardless of which part of the world they find themselves.
Students from Ghana had the highest
representation in the first cohort of the program which started in October
2014. Ghana also had a good number of students on the program last year.
“I wish
that all people eligible for this scholarship will hear about this so many
people will have the opportunity to apply.
Those who have been on the program in the past have testified about how
helpful the course has been to them” H.E Orli Weitzman, The Deputy Chief of
Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Ghana says this about the program.
The Embassy of Israel sees this program as a
complement to its already existing Early Childhood Education Program which has
trained many Kindergarten teachers in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. The Early
Childhood Education project is spearheaded by MASHAV, Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation Agency,
in conjunction with the Ghana Education Service.
The Master’s Program in Child Development offers full
scholarship to students and will start in October 2016. Application for
the program is opened to persons with an accredited
