MASHAV WORKSHOP TO PROMOTE WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP

    ​In collaboration with the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG), Amicus Onlus and Inner-City Development Foundation (IDF), Israel’s Agency for International Development and Cooperation (MASHAV) has embarked on a two weeks intensive Women’s leadership and entrepreneurial workshops for some 40 women from different career backgrounds and levels. This was to equip the women with entrepreneurial tools and skills to be change agents in their respective fields and communities. 

    Speaking at the opening ceremony, H. E. Ami Mehl encouraged the participants to take the workshop seriously and learn as much as they can to be community change agents, not just in Ghana but on the international as well. “Just because we all want to see the power of women and how it influences the world, not only in Ghana … take what you can take from this workshop and then spread you the news, spread your power because you have power and your power is essential for the future,” Ambassador Mehl added. 

    Speaking on behalf of NEWIG and IDF, Mrs Mawusi Nudekor Awity and Alhaji Ahmed Nii Nortey expressed their gratitude to Ambassador Mehl for collaborating with their organizations to make this workshop possible. 

    Representing the Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection, Dr. Asare, who is also the Director for Gender at the Ministry, called on the participants to take their lessons seriously and strive for excellence as empowered women. She added that “if you are young and you are empowered, you tend to make more impact, I will entreat you to take whatever you are thought here seriously and ask questions.  

    The first session of the workshop took place from the 9 – 13 July, and focused on women at various levels of their careers, equipping them with tools to be change agents in their communities. The second session took place from the 16-20 July, focusing on women at the beginning of their careers or businesses and they were also equipped with tools and skills that will help them make informed decisions to secure a job or manage their businesses. 

    They received training from Dr. Michal Sela, the former Chief Director of Women’s Lobby in Israel and currently a trainer with expertise in women sensitivity and entrepreneurship. Ms. Dana Chocron, MASHAV’s Coordinator in Ghana led in organizing and coordinating all the workshop activities.
