JUDITH EYRAM AKETEY WINS IGIC 2023

    After months of searching and a rigorous pitching to our esteemed panel of judges, Ms. Judith Eyram Aketey from AgriMercab took the ultimate prize for the 2023 Israeli Green Innovation Competition (IGIC) on Sunday, 3rd September 2023. 
     
     
    This year’s competition saw the participation of over 60 young startups applying for the competition. After a series of screening by our expert panel of judges, Judith Eyram Aketey from AgriMercab, John Arday Ardayfio from Husk Technologies, Nana Kofi Afriyie Sarpong from Merdeofood, Lawson Buabassah from AgroGuard, Erica Adjoa Appiah from Wobil Technologies and Portia Dumba from Pordu Care made it to the final pitch.

    The day saw each participant impress our judges with their novel ideas that promoted climate change and green innovation in Ghana. However, the judges settled on Judith Eyram Aketey from AgriMercab as the ultimate winner. 

    AgriMercab is an animal nutrition company which specializes in organic waste aggregation to maximize the technology of the black soldier fly to efficiently and affordably produce high quality insect protein suitable for aquaculture, poultry, pigs and pet feed as well as organic fertilizer from by product for vegetable and other crop farming. 
    Judith received a fully paid trip to Israel to participate in industry related meetings, excursions and conferences to learn best practices, to network and to seek potential investors to expand his or her existing business.  

    John Arday Ardayfio from Husk Technologies and Erica Adjoa Appiah from Wobil Technologies emerged as the second and first runner ups respectively. 

    In her remarks, H.E Shlomit Sufa expressed that “since the IGIC started in 2019, we have been impressed by the enthusiasm of young Ghanaians who are committed to deploying creative and innovative ideas to solving some of the everyday challenges of agriculture and the environment in Ghana. I personally join in reviewing the various entries to participate in the competition and I must say that the future looks very bright in our efforts so creating a cleaner, healthier and prosperous Ghana.”

    The Israeli Green Innovation Competition (IGIC), established in 2019, aims to recognize and celebrate the efforts of individuals and organizations who develop creative solutions to advance environmental conservation and agriculture in Ghana. This initiative operates in partnership with the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement, an endeavor led by Strategic Communications Africa Limited (Stratcomm Africa). 

    The Competition is hosted by the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement and managed by Stratcomm Africa, overseeing its various activities. IGIC is a combination of Israel’s two greatest strengths: Agriculture and Innovation. Israel prides itself as a nation of innovation that helps to stimulate innovation wherever it finds itself.  As such, the Israeli Green Innovation Competition focuses on innovative startups in the agriculture and horticulture sector. This is in line with Israel’s commitment to stimulate both agriculture and innovation in Ghana.
