The entire staff of the Israeli Embassy in Ghana led by the Ambassador, H.E Ami Mehl paid a courtesy call on the chief of Aburi and Akwapem Anafohene, Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II and his sub chiefs at the Aburi Palace.
Otoobour Djan Kwasi II has had a long standing relationship with the Embassy of Israel. It was therefore not surprising when he visited the Embassy last year to welcome the new Ambassador to Ghana. The visit of H.E Ami Mehl and his entire staff to Aburi was to reciprocate and strengthen the friendship that exists between Israel and the chiefs and people of Aburi.
“Your predecessor Sharon Barli was a good friend of ours, she visited us in this palace and through that friendship, some of our youth got the opportunity to be part of courses in Israel. Your visit today has taken our friendship to another level, and my people will continue to learn from your country” Otoobour told the Ambassador.
The chief of Aburi went on to appeal to the youth in the community to study hard in order to win scholarships and get the opportunity to participate in the courses Israel has to offer.
Speaking on behalf of his entire staff, H. E Ami Mehl, thanked the Aburihene and his people for the warm welcome and for helping to sustain the friendship between the people of Aburi and Israel.
‘There are so many areas in which Israel is ready to offer support to the people of Aburi. Apart from Education, Energy, Technology and Capacity building programs, one of the ways we would be happy to help is Agricultural Science. You have vast land with rivers, but since I came to Ghana, I have not seen many big farms. Small farms cannot feed the whole nation, so you have to import” H.E said.
H.E Ami Mehl encouraged the people to take advantage of lsraeli Agric technologies. He advised farmers to find ways to protect their harvest in order to make the maximum profit from their labor.
Otoobour and his subjects presented a stool to H.E Ami Mehl. The Queen Mothers sat the Ambassador on the stool and told him that he has now become a permanent friend to the people of Aburi. H.E thanked the Aburihene and his people for the gift and promised to give opportunities to the youth of Aburi for scholarships and other courses in Israel.
Otoobour Djan Kwasi II also expressed his gratitude to the Israeli Ambassador and the entire staff of the Embassy for coming all the way to Aburi to visit.
