On Tuesday, 19 June 2018, Agro Studies, an Israeli company represented by its CEO, Mr. Yaron Tamir joined Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This is to allow 50 young Ghanaian Agric students to benefit from an eleven month- long Agricultural training programme in Israel. The project will be facilitated by Agro Studies.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Food & Agriculture’s e-Resource Centre in Accra, H. E. Ami Mehl expressed his optimism about the success of the project and indicated that, “this is a pilot project and when successful, the government of Israel will extend it for more students to participate in the future.”

He also encouraged the beneficiaries to learn as much as they can from Israel and come back to Ghana to develop the Agric sector.  “When I came to Ghana three years ago, I promised myself to do everything I can to help and develop the agriculture in Ghana. Israel has a good reputation in agriculture and there is no reason why can’t share our knowledge with farmers and agric students to develop agriculture here. … it is up to you those who are going to Israel to make it successful and to learn as much as you can,” H. E. Ami Mehl added.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of Ghana, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto explained the Government of Ghana's priority to solving the country's unemployment situation with agricultural solutions.
“As you all know, the flagship programme for this government is Planting for Food and Jobs. The programme has many aspects, one of which is to develop the vegetable sector of this country. That aspect of it is what forms the core of the relationship between us and the Israeli company Agritop.”

He added that “the major component of what we are doing with Agritop is the training to infuse the technology of greenhouse into a  section of Ghanaian youth to make them entrepreneurs to be able to make a profitable living out of growing vegetables.”

The signing ceremony brought together officials from Agro Studies, the Embassy of Israel in Accra, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Agritop and some of the beneficiaries of the project.
