On Friday, 14 October 2022, H. E. Shlomit Sufa joined the Development Action Association to commission a new Gari Processing Centre for the women farmers in Asuboi in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
This was part of activities to commemorate the 2022 World Rural Women’s Day in Ghana.
The 2022 World Rural Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme, “Rural Women Using Technology to Provide Food for All.” This theme highlights the important role rural women play in using technology to ensure the availability of hygienically processed food all year round.
Gari processing is a major occupation for most women in Asuboi, and through this pavilion, the work of the women will improve with a conducive environment to add value to their cassava farm produce. The new Gari Processing Pavilion was supported by the Israeli Agency for International Development, MASHAV.
Addressing the women at the event, H. E. Shlomit Sufa expressed that “as an embassy, we recognize the work of rural women in Ghana and their contributions to the development of the country. It is in light of this that we decided to partner with the Development Action Association and other key stakeholders to celebrate rural women today.”
“I am happy to share that, as we gather here today, we are not only celebrating the hard work of the rural women in this community, we have been able to set up a new Cassava Processing Pavilion,” she added.
The Gari Processing Pavilion has three locally produced cassava processors, a pressing machine, a roasting area and a storeroom.
