EMBASSY OF ISRAEL HOSTS AGRITECH SUMMIT IN ACCRA

    ​On 4 June 2019, our Trade and Economic Mission in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and other local partners hosted the first ever agribusiness, innovation and technology fair in Accra. Themed “Ghana Grows with Israel (GHrow-IL) Agritech Summit 2019,” the summit offered interested Ghanaian companies in the Agricultural space as well as Ghanaian leaders of policy advocacy groups, the opportunity to learn, interact and build business relationship with leading Israeli Agri-Tec innovators and senior executives interested in entering the Ghanaian market. 

    In his welcome address, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto expressed optimism about Israeli agricultural technologies such as drip irrigation and improved seeds to help boost yields of farmers in Ghana.

    “We recognize the technological advance Israel has made  in  the  area of  agriculture  and  stand  to  benefit  hugely  from  them,” he expressed. 

    Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto also added that "Ghana has long-standing bilateral development cooperation with Israel and we have recently strengthened this relationship through increased training programmes in Ghana and in Israel.” 

    On her part, H. E. Shani Shani Cooper expressed that the summit showed the commitment of the Israeli government to support the development of Ghana's agriculture sector. She added that “this summit gives Ghana a unique opportunity to use the Israeli technology and know-how accumulated over a thousand years. The Israeli companies present here all using both tradition and innovation which we think Ghana can benefit from.”

    The summit which was the first of its kind the embassy has organized, focused on areas such as; Input Technologies, Modern Agronomic Practices, and Financing Models in Agribusiness. It hosted about 18 top Israeli Agritech companies such as Adama, AgroTop, BioFeed, Biofishency, Metzer, Netafim, Empower Africa, Arieli, Volcani International Partnerships, Hazerra, Pro Fit Agro, P. A. R. Aviv, O Link, Compostor, BioBee, Agritop, Mottech, Herman Zemel among others.
