On 18th May, we had the pleasure of gathering most of our friends, partners and loved ones at the National Theatre of Ghana to celebrate Israel’s 75 independence anniversary.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme, Israel, 75 years of creating a climate of innovation. As part of the celebration, the Embassy had the rare privilege of hosting the Tararam Group for a stunning and an unforgettable night performance.

In her remarks, H.E. Shlomit Sufa stressed on the importance of celebrating Israel’s 75 independence anniversary.
“We have chosen to celebrate this special jubilee under the theme: 75 Years of Creating a Climate of Innovation. Israel is acknowledged as a leader in variety of industries, including Agritech, Watertech, Cybertech, Fintech, Med-tech, Renewable energy among others.”
She added that “Israel has also focused on addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges, such as climate change, healthcare, and food security. Israeli startups are developing new technologies to reduce carbon emissions, improve patient outcomes, and increase food production in a sustainable way.”

On Israel Ghana relations, H.E Shlomit Sufa indicated that “in the last one year, we have worked tirelessly together on the levels of government-to-government, business-to-business and people to people - all aimed at strengthening our close relations. Most of our engagements have been in the fields of agriculture, fintech, education, innovation, health, cybersecurity, renewable energy, women empowerment among others.”

The Hon. Minister for the Eastern Region, Mr. Seth Acheampong represented the government of Ghana. In his speech, Mr. Acheampong congratulated the State of Israel for its 75th independence anniversary while stressing on the good relations between Israel and Ghana.

He emphasized that “ it is imperative to recall that Ghana was one of the first African countries to establish formal diplomatic relations with the State of Israel as far back as 1958. In the past sixty-five (65) years, Ghana and Israel have maintained warm and friendly relations and the bonds of friendship have been further strengthened and characterized by high-level visits, the most recent being the visit of a ten-member delegation from the Special Budget Committee led by Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu to the State of Israel in March this year, to understudy the existing structures, systems, and regulatory frameworks that govern the Independent Constitutional bodies in Israel.”

Mr. Seth Acheampong also used the occasion to call on Israeli businesses to take advantage of the opportunities that the Africa Continental Free Trade brings.

“I, therefore, wish to urge Israeli investors to partner with Ghanaian businesses and take advantage of the continent’s market of 1.3 billion people, as part of efforts to further expand our bilateral trade, in addition to investing in Government’s flagship initiatives such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, One-District One Factory, amongst others, for the mutual benefit of our two countries, in particular creating employment for Ghana’s youth.”

It was a joyous and energetic night as the Tararam group treated guests with an unforgettable thrilling performance. TARARAM is a creative ensemble of performing artists who produce extraordinary sounds from ordinary objects. The group's performances were interactive and full of rhythm, music and movement, interwoven with choreographed body drumming, amusing sounds and theatrical antics.

Just like their name, Tararam lived up to the expectation of the audience as they assaulted the senses and awakened the natural impulse of the audience to tap their feet, clap their hands and basically beat on anything and everything in the auditorium.

We celebrated the night with high profile guests such as the Former Senior Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo, the Accra Mayor, Madam Elizerbeth Sackey, Prof. Esi Sutherland, Rocky Dawuni among others.
