The opening ceremony of“Black Birds——Avital Cnaani Israeli Contemporary Art Exhibition” jointly organized by the Consulate General of Israel in GZ and the Redtory Culture and Art Organization.
Avital Cnaani is a well-known Israeli artist, who has had many exhibitions internationally, including shows at the Israel Museum, the George Kolbe Museum in Berlin, the Kuandu Museum in Taiwan, the Soma Museum in Seoul, and the Harlem Studio in New York. She received her MFA from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, and her B.ED. from Hamidrasha School of Art. She was an America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship recipient in 2004, 2005 and 2008. In 2009, she received the Israeli Ministry of Culture Award for Young Artists.

Cnaani describes her art work as being at the junction between sculpting and drawing. She considers her sculptures as imitating discarded living bodies, hanging limply on the wall or resting agitatedly on the floor, or, in her words, “thorny, frightening and overpowering.” The installations of Cnaani aim to raise ideological questions regarding the correlation between an object and its surroundings. For Cnaani, her art symbolizes the relationships between wild life and nature, animals and humans, the domestic and the savage.
The exhibition is organized by the Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou and the Redtory Culture and Art Organization.
