Prof. Meron Medzini, SIGNAL Distinguished Fellow
Meron Medzini is a professor (emeritus) in Political Science and History at the Rothberg International School and the Department of Asian Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is also a Distinguished SIGNAL Fellow and an Associate Fellow at the Truman Peace Institute of the Hebrew University. Born in Jerusalem, after his military service he was educated in the United States and holds a BA Degree from City University of New York, MA from Georgetown University in Washington and Ph.D. from Harvard where he majored in the history pf modern Japan and China. He began his teaching career at the Hebrew University in 1965 and also taught for many years at Tel Aviv University. He is the author of six books and eighty articles in academic publications in Israel and overseas (including China). His book Golda – A Political Biography, won the Prime Minister of Israel Prize for 2008.
He also served in the Israel Embassy in Washington DC (1957-1959) and between 1962-1978 h was the Director of the Israel Government Press Office in the Office of the Prime Minister, and in that capacity was spokesman for Prime Ministers Golda Meir, Levi Eshkol and Yitzhak Rabin. He also lectured at the Israel Army National Defense College and the Staff and Command College. Between 1965-1978 he was a political commentator on the Israel State Radio. Since 2012 he has lectured as a SIGNAL Scholar at many universities in China on Israeli history, foreign policy, the Arab-Israel conflict, the modern Middle East and China's growing involvement in the Middle East.
