On March 13, Prof.
David Gershoni, Vice Chancellor of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of
Technology (GTIIT), and Former Minister of Industry and Trade and Director of
the Office of the Chief Scientist of Israel Dr.Shuki
Gleitman received
the first Guangdong Friendship Award.
Guangdong Friendship Award is awarded
every three years by Guangdong Provincial Government.
On March 13, Prof.
David Gershoni, Vice Chancellor of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of
Technology (GTIIT), and Former Minister of Industry and Trade and Director of
the Office of the Chief Scientist of Israel Dr.Shuki
Gleitman, together with 48 winners received the award for their
outstanding contributions to Guangdong's development and foreign exchange.
At the awarding ceremony, Prof. David Gershoni delivered a speech
as the representative of Guangdong Friendship Award winners. He
pointed out that GTIIT is uniquely positioned to foster collaborations between
Chinese and Israeli educators, researchers and entrepreneurs.
"Our partnership is well founded in our deep and mutual respect of
knowledge and education, which have been common to the cultures of both nations
for thousands of years. Both cultures share the understanding that education
and technology holds the key to a better future,and GTIIT is our gateway into
this collective future," he said.
"I
am honored to be part of this endeavor and I will do my best to promote the
development of GTIIT and to strengthen the friendship between Israel and
Guangdong in general and between Haifa and Shantou in particular. I believe
that GTIIT symbolizes the crown of the Chinese - Israeli collective
relationships and I hope that GTIIT will blossom and
flourish many more projects of brotherhood, sharing and friendship between
these two ancient and great nations," noted by
Prof. David Gershoni in the speech.
Dr. Shuki Gleitman collaborates with the Guangzhou Sino Israeli
Biological Industry Investment Fund (GIBF). Currently, the Sino Israeli Fund
has completed investments in 12 projects, including orthopedics, neuroscience,
ophthalmology, telemedicine, neurology, smart elderly care, medical beauty, and
new cancer drugs.
Dr. Shuki Gleitman was born in October 1949 in Israel. He holds a
dual doctoral degree in physics and chemistry from the Hebrew University of
Israel. He served as a former Minister of Industry and Trade in Israel and
former Director of the Office of Chief Scientist. His contribution to the
establishment of Israel's national policy on innovation was particularly
significant, contributing to Israel becoming an innovative nation. At the same
time, he also serves as a senior advisor for building innovation systems in
world institutions and regions such as the World Bank and Serbia; Since 1997,
he has been serving as the Honorary Consul General of Singapore in Israel.
Received the title of "Honorary Citizen of Guangzhou City" in 2018;
In 2022, he became the investment ambassador of the Greater Bay Area and was
awarded the title of the first "Guangdong Friendship Award" in the same
year.
Since 2013, Dr. Shuki Gleitman has been working in Guangzhou with
the aim of supporting and guiding the ecosystem of technological innovation,
mainly focusing on the field of healthcare. Dr. Suge is very active in his work
in Guangzhou, contributing half of his time every year. During the past three
years of the epidemic, I have undergone more than 14 days of quarantine each
time and have also insisted on coming to Guangzhou 5 times to take charge of
work.
Dr. Shuki Gleitman efforts and contributions not only promote and
establish the ecosystem of Guangzhou's high-tech industry, but also will truly
and successfully influence the future of China Israel cooperation on a large
scale.
