The Holocaust was unprecedented genocide, total and systematic, perpetrated by Nazi Germany and its collaborators, with the aim of annihilating the Jewish people. The primary motivation was the Nazis' anti-Semitic racist ideology. Between 1933 and 1941 Nazi Germany pursued a policy that dispossessed the Jews of their rights and their property, followed by the branding and the concentration of the Jewish population. This policy gained broad support in Germany and much of occupied Europe. In 1941, following the invasion of the Soviet Union, the Nazis and their collaborators launched the systematic mass murder of the Jews. By 1945 nearly six million Jews had been murdered.

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
In 1943 act of Jewish resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto in German-occupied Poland during World War II to oppose Nazi Germany's final effort to transport the remaining ghetto population to the gas chambers of the Majdanek and Treblinka extermination camps.
The uprising started on 19 April when the ghetto refused to surrender to the police commander SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Stroop, who ordered the burning of the ghetto, block by block, ending on 16 May. A total of 13,000 Jews were killed, about half of them burnt alive or suffocated.
The uprising was the largest single revolt by Jews during World War II.
The yellow daffodils have significant implications for the Warsaw ghetto uprising, where the last surviving leader, Marek Edelman, received a bouquet of yellow daffodils from an anonymous person on April 19th each year. He placed the daffodils he received in front of the Jewish Heroes Monument to commemorate those who had fought and unfortunately died.

At the ceremony, Consul General Alex Goldman Shayman shared that he visited the Yom Vashem during his high school years, and the countless photos, names, and biographies of the victims displayed in the museum shocked him. We commemorate the Jewish heroes who bravely resisted the Nazi massacre today, and also pay high tribute to the international righteous who risked their lives to save the Jewish people. They should not be forgotten.
