Hamas is the problem. Demilitarization is the solution.
Let's face reality: Israel evacuated the Gaza Strip in 2005 and handed over the keys to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Israel renounced any territorial claim on the Gaza Strip and has no designs on the land. Israel's wish - and the international community's dream - was to see the Palestinians finally take responsibility for their own fate and to show the world their capability to successfully manage their territory, make it thrive economically and establish peaceful relations with its Israeli neighbors. The shared hope was to see Gaza flourish as the "Middle Eastern Singapore." But two years later, in the summer of 2007, Hamas violently overthrew the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, murdering and driving out Abbas' men. Since then, Hamas has established an extremist and highly oppressive Islamist regime over the strip, muzzling free speech, limiting women's rights and driving out Christians.
Hamas is not a legitimate political entity, nor is its rule over Gaza lawful. It is a terrorist organization, recognized as such (without any differentiation between the armed and the political wings) by the European Union, USA, Egypt, Australia, Canada and other nations.
Hamas' military capabilities are estimated at some 20,000 heavily armed terrorists, thousands of rockets aimed at Israel, dozens of attack tunnels leading to Israeli territory and an extensive terrorist infrastructure supported by Iran. But Hamas' main asset is its iron hold over the Gaza Strip. With methods of organized crime, Hamas has completely subordinated the economy of Gaza to its needs through racketeering, intimidation and other violent means.
Hamas' management of the Gaza Strip is based on the proven assumption that Israel and the international community will take care of the basic needs of the population, enabling Hamas to divert the vast majority of its resources to acquiring weapons and building its terrorist infrastructure, mainly hidden underground, at the expense of the sustainable development of the strip and the welfare of the Gazans. The misuse of thousands tons of concrete for the construction of terrorist tunnels for perpetrating large-scale attacks against Israeli civilians is one of the most blatant illustrations of Hamas' corruption.
Hamas militiamen are hiding behind Palestinian civilians and exploiting them as human shields. Moreover, Hamas is hiding its murderous agenda - its declared goal is the destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic State in its place - behind the Palestinian cause in order to mislead the international community.
Hamas does not care at all for Gaza's civilians. For Hamas, its rifles are more valuable than the lives of their people. Sacrificing Palestinian life, including that of innocent women and children, is worthwhile in Hamas' eyes as long as Israelis are harmed in the process. Thus, Hamas bears full and direct responsibility for the misery and suffering of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The only genuine way to protect both Israel's and Gaza's population is the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip according to the principles laid down in the interim agreements between Israel and the Palestinian. This implies the destruction of the tunnels and the disarmament of Hamas and all the other terrorist groups in the area.

Realitatea este următoarea: Israel a evacuat Fâșia Gaza în 2005 și a predat cheile președintelui Autorității Palestiniene, Mahmoud Abbas, renunțând la orice pretenție teritorială asupra Fâșiei Gaza. Dorința Statului Israel și visul comunității internaționale a fost de a vedea palestinienii asumându-și în cele din urmă responsabilitatea pentru propria lor soartă. S-a sperat ca aceștia să arate lumii capacitatea de a gestiona cu succes propriul teritoriu, de a realiza prosperitate economică și stabili relații pașnice cu vecinii săi, israelienii. Dar doi ani mai târziu, în vara anului 2007, Hamas a răsturnat violent Autoritatea Palestiniană în Gaza, prin uciderea și alungarea reprezentanților lui Abbas. De atunci, Hamas a stabilit un regim islamist extremist și foarte opresiv, prin cenzurarea libertății de exprimare, prin limitarea drepturilor femeiilor și alungarea creștinilor.
Hamas nu este o entitate politică legitimă și nici controlul său din Gaza legal. Este o organizație teroristă, recunoscută ca atare (fără nici o diferențiere între aripile politice și armate) de către Uniunea Europeană, SUA, Egipt, Australia, Canada și alte națiuni.
Capabilități militare ale Hamas sunt estimate la aproximativ 20.000 de luptători înarmați puternic, mii de rachete care vizează Israelul, zeci de tuneluri de atac care permit infiltrarea pe teritoriul israelian, precum și o infrastructură teroristă susținută de Iran. Dar principalul atu al Hamas rămâne controlul de fier asupra Fâșiei Gaza. Cu metode caracteristice crimei organizate, Hamas a subordonat complet economia din Gaza nevoilor sale, prin extorcare, intimidare și alte mijloace violente.
Gestionarea de către Hamas a Fâșiei Gaza se bazează pe ipoteza dovedită că Israelul și comunitatea internațională vor avea grijă de nevoile de bază ale populației, lucru care permite Hamas să devieze marea majoritate a resurselor sale pentru achiziționarea de arme și construirea infrastructurii sale teroriste, în special ascunsă în subteran, în detrimentul dezvoltării durabile și creării de bunăstare în Gaza. Unul dintre exemplele cele mai clare ale corupției Hamas reprezintă utilizarea abuzivă a mii de tone de ciment pentru construcția de tuneluri cu scopul de a comite atacuri masive împotriva civililor israelieni.
Hamas acționează din spatele civililor palestinieni, pe care îi exploatează ca scuturi umane și își ascunde agenda criminală - obiectivul declarat de distrugere a Israelului și crearea unui stat islamic în locul său - în spatele cauzei palestiniene, pentru a induce în eroare comunitatea internațională.
Organizației Hamas nu îi pasă de civili din Gaza. Pentru Hamas, armele sale sunt mai valoroase decât viețile propriilor oameni. Sacrificarea de vieți palestiniene, inclusiv a femeilor și copiilor nevinovați, este utilă în ochii Hamas, atâta timp cât israelieni sunt răniți în acest proces. De aceea, Hamas poartă întreaga responsabilitate pentru suferința palestinienilor din Fâșia Gaza
Singura modalitate reală de a proteja atât Israelul, cât și populația din Gaza este demilitarizarea Fâșiei Gaza în conformitate cu principiile stabilite în acordurile interimare dintre Israel și Autoritatea Palestiniană. Aceasta implică distrugerea tunelurilor și dezarmarea Hamas și tututor celorlalte grupuri teroriste din zonă.
