Joint Statement Expressing Support for Bucharest Pride Festival
Bucharest, 15 May 2015 - On the occasion of the 2015 Bucharest Pride Festival, we express our support for, and solidarity with, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities in Romania. We support the right of these communities to use this traditional occasion to march together peacefully and lawfully, in order to raise awareness of the specific issues that affect them.
Human rights — including justice, equality, humanity, respect and freedom of expression — and the rule of law are the foundations upon which democratic states are built. Indeed, international human rights law is grounded on the premise that all individuals are entitled to the same rights and freedoms, as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is this respect for fundamental human values that obliges governments to protect all citizens from violence and discrimination and to ensure that all people enjoy equal opportunities.
Some individuals still face discrimination, both systemic and overt, based on their sexual
orientation and gender identity. Our governments seek to combat such discrimination by
promoting the human rights of all people. Everyone, including gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender and intersex people should be free to enjoy the rights and freedoms to which
people of all nations are entitled.

Mesaj de sprijin pentru GayFest București 2015
București, 15 mai 2015 - Cu ocazia GayFest Bucureşti 2015, ne exprimăm solidaritatea și sprijinul pentru comunitatea LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender și intersex) din România. Susţinem dreptul acestora de a manifesta în mod paşnic şi legal pentru a atrage atenția asupra problemelor specifice cu care se confruntă aceste comunități.
Drepturile omului – inclusiv justiţia, egalitatea, umanitatea, respectul şi libertatea de expresie – şi statul de drept alcătuiesc fundația pe care se sprijină țările democratice. Legislația internațională în domeniul drepturilor omului pornește de la premisa că toţi indivizii trebuie să se bucure de aceleaşi drepturi şi libertăţi, așa cum prevede Declaraţia Universală a Drepturilor Omului. Tocmai respectul pentru aceste valori fundamentale obligă guvernele să-și protejeze cetăţenii împotriva violenţei și discriminării şi să se asigure că toți se bucură de șanse egale.
Unele persoane se confruntă în continuare cu acte de discriminare, direct sau indirect, din cauza orientării și identității lor sexuale. Guvernele noastre încearcă să combată astfel de acte prin promovarea drepturilor omului. Oricine, inclusiv persoanele din comunitatea LGBTI, trebuie să se poată bucura de drepturile și libertățile prevăzute pentru cetățenii tuturor națiunilor.
