FM Liberman meets EU High Representative Ashton

    FM Liberman thanked the High Representative for the EU decision regarding sanctions on Iran. The Foreign Minister also expressed his gratitude for yesterday's (23 Oct.) decision on the ACAA agreement.
    Liberman said that the situation in southern Israel, which is being bombarded with rockets from Gaza, is intolerable. No European state would allow such a reality in its territory as the residents of southern Israel are forced to suffer.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman met on Wednesday (24 October) in the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness Catherine Ashton.
     
    In the meeting, the two discussed relations between Israel and the European Union, as well as events in the region. Foreign Minister Liberman thanked the High Representative for the EU decision regarding sanctions on Iran. The Foreign Minister also expressed his gratitude for yesterday's (23 Oct.) decision on the ACAA agreement, according to which the Israeli standard for pharmaceutical products will now be recognized in all 27 EU member states, which is expected to expand the scope of trade by Israeli companies with the European Union.
     
    FM Liberman stated in the meeting that the situation in southern Israel, which is being bombarded with rockets from Gaza, is intolerable. No European state would allow such a reality in its territory as the residents of southern Israel are forced to suffer. Israel cannot continue to restrain itself. Liberman noted that Israel expects that the EU will act to prevent the smuggling of arms into the Gaza Strip.
     
    The Foreign Minister related during the meeting that if Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, continues unilateral measures against Israel in the UN General Assembly, there will be difficult and far-reaching consequences.
