    PRESS RELEASE

Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel, Zeev Elkin and Romanian Labour Minister Mariana Câmpeanu signed on September 3, 2013, at the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection for the Elderly of Romania, the Administrative Arrangement for the implementation of the Agreement between Romania and Israel in the field of social security.

The Agreement between Romania and Israel on Social Security - signed in Jerusalem on February 28, 2011, ratified by Law no. 150 of July 23, 2012, with entry into force on January 1, 2013 - governs the granting of pensions, death benefit and state allocations for children.

The Administrative Arrangement facilitates the application of the Social Security Agreement, providing ways for the implementation of its provisions, the cooperation between national institutions responsible for providing benefits, and methods of making payments.

The Social Security Agreement proves to be particularly important given that many Romanian workers have worked in Israel and the treaty provides opportunity for recognition and aggregation of insurance periods completed on the territory of the two countries for the granting of pension, whether the periods were made before or after the entry into force of the Agreement.

The Agreement is applicable to the Romanian legislation for pensions for old-age, invalidity and survivors, to financial assistance in case of death and state allowance for children; and to Israeli law regarding old age and survivors insurance, disability insurance and insurance for children. The Agreement covers people who are or have been subject to the legislation of one or both countries as well as their family members and survivors.

On this occasion, the two ministers had a bilateral meeting during which they appreciated the cooperation on labor and social protection between the two countries, highlighting the openness for its expansion and consolidation.
