A few days after the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, modern forms of anti-Semitism are flooding the public space.
This time, we are witnessing a form of anti-Semitism disguised in a report issued by Amnesty International, in which the State of Israel is being accused of apartheid and racism, report coordinated by the London branch of the organization. The same branch in which numerous employees have publicly denounced racist attitudes and behaviors.
This “evaluation” is another attempt at delegitimizing Israel. Apart from the lies, the report promotes and encourages feelings of hate and anti-Semitism.
Israel is today a democratic and prosper state, in which all citizens enjoy full and equal rights. A country that respects the diversity of its people and that protects values such as tolerance and multiculturalism.
Let`s take a look at the current Israeli Government, which is an image of our diverse and inclusive society: Jews and Arabs, secular and religious, immigrants, people with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ+ community altogether representing their nation. This vivid example stands as proof of our firm commitment to protecting liberal rights and values.
Israel is, at its core, a country with multicultural roots, while diversity is a defining characteristic of our identity.
Another argument discussed in this report is the one which presumes that the establishment of the State of Israel took place based on the discrimination between Jews and Arabs. A falsehood, which furthermore illustrates a vast lack of knowledge regarding historical events or reality itself.
The modern State of Israel was founded on the support expressed by the international community for the Jewish people’s right to a homeland. Despite the hate and anti-Semitic discourses, Israel remains today a country in which people of different origins, ethnicities and religions can enjoy freedom and safety.
What is even more appalling is the fact that an organization such as Amnesty International clearly expresses its support for Hamas, an extremist group, whose main goal is to destroy Israel “through jihad”. Let us remember that a large number of states, as well as the European Union, have declared Hamas a terrorist organization.
There is another relevant aspect that the public must be aware of in order to fully grasp this report: the biased attitude of Amnesty International’s Secretary General. Agnes Callamard had unjustly accused Israel of murdering Yasser Arafat in the past. It took 8 years until apologies were presented for this unproven allegation.
With this new report filled with false accusations, plagiarized arguments and distorted realities, history repeats itself. Let us not forget that no matter how many times a lie is repeated, it will not ultimately become truth.
