In Memory of Holocaust Victims:A Child of Our Time

    ​In memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the Embassy of Israel and Opera Siam present Tippett’s oratorio “A Child of Our Time”, conducted by Somtow Sucharitkul, on Monday February 19, 2018 from 20.00 hours at Thailand Cultural Centre.

    In 1938, a young Polish Jew “Herschel Grynszpan” visited the Embassy of Germany in Paris, where he shot a German diplomat “Ernst vom Rath”.  The German Nazi government responded in violence against its Jewish population and set off Kristallnacht (the Night of Broken Glass), a night of pogroms, persecution and flames, which killed over 90,000 people and caused 30,000 Jews to be sent to concentration camps.​

    2018 is the 80th year since Kristallnacht, the horrifying night that is considered to mark the beginning of the Holocaust. Tippett’s oratorio “A Child of Our Time” tells of the events that led to Kristallnacht in a universal language.
