Said the Israeli "startup guru" - Dr. Yossi Vardi, at the “Innovation and High-Tech in Israel” seminar that took place on March 10th, 2013 in Bangkok. The exclusive seminar was organized by the Trade and Economic Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Bangkok and hosted more than 50 senior representatives from the public and private sectors in Thailand such as NSTDA, SIPA, TDRI, new media companies and mobile operators.

Dr. Vardi, known as an "early stage start ups' angel" investor, already invested in more than 50 companies, many of them were sold or became public. In 1996 Vardi became one of the funders of Mirabilis, inventor of ICQ, the first instant messaging application that was released to the web. Mirabilis was sold to AOL for over 400 million dollars.

"This event enables both IIT (Israel Innovative Technologies) industry, together with Thai companies and investors to learn about the process of innovation and building a startup ecosystem", said Mr. Barak Sharabi, Head of Trade and Economic Mission in the Embassy of Israel in Bangkok.
"This event is just the beginning of cooperation between Israeli and Thai companies, startups and investors. IIT is considered as a world leader of R&D investment due to the public and private sectors’ commitments. The cooperation with Thai companies will mutually benefit both parties"
