Israeli humanitarian mission in rural Ethiopia

  •   Israeli Kahn Foundation gives free eye surgeries at Jinka Hospital
  •
Kahn Foundation, an Israeli humanitarian group from Tel HaShomer Hospital, conducted free cataract surgeries at the Jinka Hospital in southern Ethiopia, from Feb. 16-21, 2014, that makes for sight restoration of numerous visually impaired people living in the South Omo zone of Jinka town. It also provided screening service for Jinka schools with the cooperation of south Omo Zonal Bureau. Jinka is chosen for its remoteness and absence of advanced medical facility.
Supported by MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation) and led by Dr. Itay Ben Zion, an Israeli professional ophthalmologist, Kahn Foundation team has performed a week-long humanitarian eye surgery for visually impaired people who have lost their sight due to various reasons. Two Ethiopian nurses have just completed a three-year training by Kahn’s doctors and now can conduct eye surgeries along their Ethiopian counterparts throughout the year. Kahn Foundaton launched its first eye camp in Jinka in 2010, in cooperation with local authorities.
