These Are My Names is one of the films screened by Addis International Film Festival at Alliance Ethio-Francaise on June 11th, 2014 –– a 30-minute documentary written, directed, and produced by Israeli filmmaker Ruth Mason.
The film shows how Ethiopian Israelis’ original names, changed without their consent upon arrival in Israel, take them back to their childhoods in mountain villages; to the hunger and fear in Sudan; to longing for loved ones who died or disappeared on the journey to Israel…and reclamation of their roots.
The public, almost one hundred persons, welcomed the film with sympathy.
