Our Embassy helped mobilize votes for Prof. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, the Israeli candidate for UN’s Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Among the countries that supported her candidacy are some of Israel’s best friends in Africa. The CEDAW committee is widely regarded as one of the UN's most prestigious organs in the area of human rights in general and women's rights in particular, including members from 23 states.

Professor Ruth Halperin-Kaddari was elected on June 26, 2014 as an expert on the UN Committee on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), winning the support of 128 states. This is the third term of Prof. Halperin-Kaddari, who is a leading expert the field of family law, a professor at the Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Law, and Director of the Rackman Center for the Advancement of the Status of Women at Bar-Ilan University of Law in Israel.

Prof. Halperin-Kaddari's election was the fruit of an effective diplomatic campaign, spearheaded, among others, by the International Organizations Division of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Israeli Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.
