Israel to Strengthen Ties with Ethiopia

    Israel will strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia in health, education and irrigation  development  sectors, Ambassador Raphael Morav said.
    The Ambassador inaugurated yesterday 700,000 birr dental diagnostic x-ray device donated by an Israeli charity organization for the Gondar University Specialized Hospital.
    Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Morav said Israel and Ethiopia have a long-standing friendship and development cooperation.
    He noted that the two countries have signed various agreements at different times to further boost the relationships.
    Morav explained that Israel has been supporting Ethiopia to improve its agriculture production by utilizing water resources and sharing experiences in agriculture and irrigation.
    He also indicated that an Israeli medical team had provided free cardiac surgery for over 500 patients in the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa.
    According to him, Israeli has furthermore supported the expansion of capacity of the sector through the provision of specialization programs and training for medical students and skilled trainees.
    Morav said Israel will continue to strengthen its support for the sustainable economic growth of Ethiopia by enabling knowledge and skills transfer in science and technology.
    Gondar University Academic Vice President, Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn said the relationship created in research, social services and education sectors with Israeli organization and scholars has been creating capacity to the university.
    Noting that the hospital has been referring patients to Addis Ababa due to the absence of the device at the hospital, he indicated that the device will play a great role for the patients and the medical students.
    The device can serve more than 80 patients in a day.
